The possibility of the visit was discussed during a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Financial Times reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions at the White House.
Zelensky also confirmed to Axios that Witkoff and Kushner could arrive in the Ukrainian capital within the next two weeks. According to him, this development is one of the concrete outcomes of his latest meeting with the head of the White House.
For the authorities in Kyiv, their arrival is seen as an opportunity to deepen ties with the US administration and secure new military support from the United States during Trump’s second term.
If the trip is confirmed, it will mark the two US officials’ first visit to Ukraine, after they previously made several trips to Russia.
The Ukrainian president said he plans to discuss with them the possibility of restarting peace talks with Russia. He also intends to show them firsthand the situation on the ground and the damage caused by the war.
According to Zelensky, Witkoff and Kushner support a ceasefire that could pave the way for a diplomatic process. However, he expressed doubts that Russian President Vladimir Putin would agree to suspend the fighting.
Despite his skepticism, Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine is ready to return to the negotiating table for peace talks with Russia, with the aim of ending the conflict that has continued for more than four years.
