Donald Trump has returned to the US after the NATO summit, which was described by prominent media outlets such as CNN as a meeting that ended “on a positive note.”
According to CNN, as European leaders entered Wednesday’s meeting, the atmosphere appeared tense. Trump was standing just outside the entrance to the conference hall and was expressing irritably a series of grievances toward NATO, mentioning everything from obstacles to his claims over Greenland to Spain’s opposition to making its bases available for the war against Iran.

The same media outlet writes that Trump’s counterparts had been prepared for a harsh rebuke, which many had expected at this summit, but that did not happen.
In the end, according to CNN, Trump appeared more restrained than he had been in front of the cameras. Seated at the round table, he did not speak at all about Greenland or Spain, although he voiced the complaint that the countries represented at the conference had not supported him in the face of Iran.
Although he also showed dissatisfaction over the situation regarding the agreement with Tehran, declaring that it had now been practically brought down after Iran’s attacks on several ships in the Strait of Hormuz, he did not repeat the threat of a complete withdrawal of the United States from NATO.
On the contrary, Trump appeared interested as leaders presented their commitments to increase defense investment. This more favorable atmosphere led the summit to be seen as successful. This meeting also brought positive news for Albania.
From Ankara, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte officially confirmed that Albania will host the Alliance’s next summit.
In Tirana, the leaders of the 32 member countries will gather during 2027, while the exact date and period of the summit will be determined later, after consultations among the allies.
