According to British media, Emma Atkinson was at her father’s apartment in the Shakespeare Towers building in October 2024. During the inquest, her father recounted that his daughter had asked him for a cigarette and sat beside a window, which she had opened fully.

He said he had asked Emma to close the window because of the low temperatures. Shortly afterward, he heard his daughter say, “I’m going.” When he turned around, he saw her legs passing through the window.

The woman fell from a height of around 27 meters. Her father immediately went downstairs, while an off-duty doctor who lived in the same building provided first aid to Emma and the baby.

Although she was rushed to hospital, the 38-year-old could not survive her severe injuries. Doctors performed an emergency delivery and saved the girl, who was born five weeks premature. The baby, named Posie, survived and continues to receive medical care.

During the inquest, it emerged that Emma had previously been diagnosed with an emotionally unstable personality disorder and had made two attempts to end her life.

A few weeks before the incident, she had posted a photograph on social media showing her rounded belly. Alongside the image, she had written joyfully: “It’s a girl, I couldn’t be happier.”
