A serious incident shook the Rodopi region of Greece yesterday, where 44-year-old Esma Muço was stabbed to death by her 53-year-old husband, Bujar Muço.

According to Greek media, the 53-year-old admitted to police that he was responsible for the crime, stating: “I did it out of anger because I lost control.”

The woman was found injured inside her home in an area of Rodopi and was taken to Komotini Hospital. Despite doctors’ efforts, she did not survive.

According to the forensic examination, the 44-year-old died as a result of a wound caused by a kitchen knife approximately 20 centimeters long. The blow caused internal and external bleeding in the right lung.

Doctors estimate that death occurred approximately five minutes after she was injured.

After attacking his wife, the 53-year-old also injured himself. He is currently hospitalized under police supervision after suffering a wound to the chest.

Two children witnessed the tragedy

As part of the investigation, the couple’s two children also gave statements after facing the horrific moments of the incident. The 16-year-old daughter was the one who notified police, while the 19-year-old son personally transported his mother to the hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

There had been a previous report of domestic violence

The investigation has also brought to light a previous history of domestic violence. According to Greek police records, in 2022, in Heraklion, Crete, the 53-year-old was arrested in the act following a report of threats and domestic violence against the same woman. The victim’s lawyer stated that the 2022 report was not the only problematic episode in the couple’s relationship.

It has also been reported that the 53-year-old had previously received psychiatric treatment at a clinic, where he stayed for two nights before being released to continue treatment with medication.
