Tourism in North Macedonia grows by 40%, Mickoski: Government measures are bearing fruit

The Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, has announced that the tourism sector is experiencing significant expansion, with a 40 percent increase in foreign visitors. According to him, this positive development is a direct result of the policies and initiatives undertaken by the executive to boost this sector.

He stressed that passenger flow at domestic airports has seen a considerable increase. This trend has also been confirmed by the World Bank in the latest edition of the ‘Tourism Watch’ report, published in June 2026, where North Macedonia tops the European list in terms of growth in the percentage of foreign visitors and the extension of their stay.

“The data show a 40% expansion compared to the previous year, which for us is a significant indicator of success,” said Mickoski. He added that considering the weight that tourism holds in the Gross Domestic Product, he expects this impact to materialize in the national economy during the second quarter of this year.
