The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime will hold a hearing tomorrow at 09:30 to determine the security measure for businessman Ergys Agasi. He was arrested on Wednesday evening in the Plepat area of Durrës.

According to reporting by journalist Klodiana Lala for BalkanWeb, Agasi’s arrest followed an operation by SPAK, while he had been wanted for months and had been under observation by the authorities for two weeks. He is suspected of involvement in a criminal group, money laundering, violating equality in tenders, unlawful competition and unlawful deprivation of liberty.
Ulian Shpataraku, a former police official, was also arrested. Agasi, who was considered highly wanted by SPAK, was apprehended eight months after being declared wanted. He is suspected of running a criminal group within the National Agency of Information Society, where tenders worth millions of euros were predetermined and the funds ended up in the accounts of companies owned by businessman Ermal Beqiri, who was arrested in France.
The vehicle in which Agasi was traveling together with Shpataraku was initially identified in Elbasan. Acting on the instructions of special prosecutors, police blocked the main roads and began pursuing the vehicle. When the car, driven by Shpataraku, arrived in the Plepat area of Durrës, known for its dense population and heavy traffic, it was surrounded by the Special Operational Forces.
Following the arrest, the vehicle underwent a detailed inspection. Agasi and Shpataraku each had 4,000 euros with them. Some details of the operation remain highly secret, while the action had been preceded by the seizure, some time earlier, of a Land Rover Defender vehicle in the garage of a villa at Equos Resort.
SPAK had declared Ergys Agasi wanted for unlawful competition, unlawful deprivation of liberty, violating equality in tenders, money laundering and involvement in a criminal group. Investigations by the Special Prosecution Office have raised suspicions that he, in cooperation with Ermal Beqiri, had established a criminal group within the National Agency of Information Society and ordered the abduction of business rivals, with the aim of forcing them to withdraw from tenders. Mirlinda Karçanaj, the former director of the National Agency of Information Society, her former deputy, several businessmen and senior police officials are being investigated in connection with this affair.
