Tomor Alizoti: Rama has lost his political legitimacy, protests will become stronger

Democratic Party MP Tomor Alizoti said in an interview with News24 that Edi Rama has been politically delegitimized. He warned that citizens’ discontent has not subsided and that protests against the government could resume with greater force.

Alizoti said the temporary suspension of the protests does not mean the revolt is over. According to him, the prime minister should have opened the way for dialogue instead of clashing with protesters.

He said the discontent is linked to the government’s performance and difficulties in the economy, healthcare and education. He added that violence and the government’s lack of communication could push citizens to respond even more forcefully.

“The protests will be even stronger. They will not stop anymore. Students protested for more than two years in Albania, and here we are. A person becomes delegitimized when no one listens to them anymore and no one agrees to speak with them. He has used violence, but violence begets violence, and citizens will be more present. This cannot be stopped. It would be better for him to create space for dialogue. The confrontation with and labeling of students and protesters, who are not millionaires like the prime minister and live in difficult conditions, will trigger a strong reaction. If Rama had governed properly and built a good economy, healthcare system and education system, people would not take to the streets. But Mr. Rama understands only crime and schemes. This country has been robbed extensively by him and his people, allies and ministers,” Alizoti said.
