Tirana Court approves extradition of Julide Yazici to Turkey, sentenced to 4 years in prison

The Tirana Court has accepted the Turkish authorities’ request for the extradition of 32-year-old Julide Yazici, who was arrested in Albania on suspicion of having links to an organization that official Ankara considers terrorist.

The decision was issued by Judge Kujtim Vraniçi, about two months after the Court of Appeal confirmed the security measure of “arrest in prison” against the Turkish national, who had been declared internationally wanted.

According to published information, Yazici had previously been granted political asylum in France. However, Turkish authorities accuse her of participation in a banned organization and of providing logistical support to it.

The file sent by Turkey states that the 32-year-old is suspected of having taken part in protests held several years ago in that country, which are linked to defending the rights of the Kurdish minority. Turkish authorities also claim that during a search of an apartment in Istanbul, material evidence and documents related to the case were found.

For these accusations, Julide Yazici has previously been sentenced in absentia by the Turkish judiciary to 4 years in prison.
