The iPhone 18’s debut on Friday morning in Sydney, Australia, was accompanied by a chaotic situation after one customer loudly claimed he was the first person to have bought the device.
However, the person whom staff and customers in line regarded as the first buyer was 20-year-old Lachlan Collyer.

From the early hours of the morning, dozens of Apple fans had gathered outside the store on George Street; some had even spent the night there, aiming to be among the first people in the world to get their hands on the new models.
When the doors opened at 8:00 a.m., Collyer, who had waited for several hours, emerged first, holding an iPhone 18 Pro in the new “Glacier Blue” color.
But shortly afterward, another customer came out of the store and addressed the cameras, shouting: “I’m the first! I’m the first! All the damn news reports are lies!”, creating an unusual incident.
Despite this claim, those present and Apple employees continued to regard Collyer as the first person to enter and collect the new phone.
Meanwhile, two other fans, 26-year-old Mehak Dhiman and 24-year-old Shav Chandra, had arrived at 6:00 a.m. They said they were very excited and could hardly wait to see the device up close, as they discussed choosing between the “Glacier Blue” shade and the new “Burgundy” variant. They explained that they had arrived early specifically to see the colors before deciding which one to buy.
The iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable phone, was also displayed during the event and will officially go on sale on October 23. Dhiman and Chandra said they wanted to try it, even though they did not intend to buy it.
Alongside the iPhone 18, Apple also introduced the updated Apple Watch Ultra 4 and AirPods 5 models on Friday. Meanwhile, the company announced that the new Mac mini and Mac Studio will be available in Australia starting September 22.
