Hashim Thaçi’s lawyer, Pierre-Richard Prosper, described the verdict against his client as a “mockery of justice” and warned that the defense would appeal the decision.

Prosper claimed that the outcome of the trial had been predetermined and accused the Specialist Chambers of “rewriting history” by portraying the Kosovo Liberation Army as an organized structure and, according to him, attributing responsibility for it to Thaçi.
“This is a dark day for international justice and the end of tribunals,” Prosper said after the verdict was announced.
He said he had spoken with Thaçi and would meet with him again. “Thaçi is ready to continue fighting for himself and for the people of Kosovo,” Prosper said.
According to him, the defense’s hope is that the verdict will be overturned on appeal, although he warned that the process could take years.
Prosper also called on the Kosovo Assembly to review its relationship with the Specialist Chambers, saying that Kosovo must make “a sovereign decision that is in the best interest of the country.”
“If I were an MP, starting tomorrow I would withdraw my support for this court,” Prosper said. The lawyers of the other convicted defendants also announced that they would appeal the verdict.
