With the arrival of autumn, Tetovo is facing not only the yellowing of the landscape but also recurring concerns about air quality. Temperatures have already begun to fall, and the city has exceeded the minimum pollution threshold, while the institutions have still not responded. According to environmentalists, the root causes of this situation are the lack of action by local institutions and the absence of oversight of major polluters.
Meanwhile, residents must secure heating without access to a central heating network and while facing high energy costs. These conditions push many families to burn anything they can find, including damp wood, industrial waste and plastic, releasing toxic substances into the environment.

Regarding concrete action on the ground, the Municipality of Tetovo says that it has not yet begun. According to its explanation, interventions will start in line with the official calendar for the heating season.
Experts and environmental activists see capital investment as a sustainable way out of this situation. They are also calling on the state to provide direct subsidies for energy-efficient systems, including heat pumps.
Tetovo remains under the impact of pollution, while the institutions have postponed the start of inspections until November and families are calculating every kilowatt of electricity to get through the month. If preventive measures and a concrete subsidy strategy are lacking, the fight against smog risks once again ending without success during this year’s winter as well. /TV21/
