Tehran further fuels tensions: Agreement described as the U.S. accepting capitulation

Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, made a statement that directly touches on Donald Trump’s pride, describing the agreement between Iran and the United States to end the war as a “declaration of America’s capitulation.”

During a conference in Azerbaijan, broadcast live by Iranian state television, Ghalibaf said that the understanding reached in Islamabad did not arise as a result of pressure or coercion, but as a result of the resilience and strength of the Iranian people.

“The success of this process did not come from pressure or coercion. It came from the resistance and authority of the brave Iranian nation,” declared Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s chief negotiator.

According to him, the memorandum of understanding reached in Islamabad is essentially an acknowledgment of failure on the part of the United States. He also stressed that security in the Middle East should be ensured by the countries of the region themselves, without external interference.

These statements come at a time when the agreement between Tehran and Washington is being widely examined for the effects it could have on the political and security balance in the region. The first round of talks between the U.S. and Iran in Switzerland concluded on Tuesday and left the impression that the positions of the two sides were drawing closer.

Mediating countries said the atmosphere of the discussions was constructive and spoke of “encouraging progress.”
