Iranian negotiator warns the US after the attack in Hormuz: The era of one-sided agreements is over, now the price must be paid

After the attack on a Cyprus-flagged ship in the Strait of Hormuz, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran’s Parliament and at the same time the country’s chief negotiator, reacted by declaring that “the era of one-sided agreements is over.”

In a post made public on Sunday morning, Ghalibaf sent a harsh message to the United States, underlining that, in his view, Iran will no longer accept agreements that the other side does not uphold.

“We told you: keep your word or pay the price. Reality is knocking at the door,” he wrote.

Together with this post, Ghalibaf also shared a paragraph from the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, which states that “upon signing the memorandum, the Islamic Republic of Iran will make the necessary arrangements for the safe passage of commercial ships free of charge for 60 days.”

This statement comes at a time when tensions between Tehran and Washington have risen sharply following the attack on a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz and the US military response against Iranian targets, raising concerns about a further escalation of the conflict in the region.
