She said anyone involved in the arms industry through the use of public funds, without competitive procedures or transparency, must be subject to a full investigation, as the matter also affects NATO security.

Tabaku said the country is governed by a government where the law is not applied equally to everyone. She called for the process to be conducted with transparency, accountability and justice.

The MP said the SPAK searches were a positive development and that responsibility must extend to everyone involved in the case.

“Anyone who has been involved in the arms industry using public funds, without competition or transparency, must be investigated to the end. When it comes to defense, what is at risk is not only Albanian taxpayers’ money, but also the national security of a NATO member country,” Tabaku said.

She said she received a response from KAYO several days ago, but the document addressed none of the questions she had raised. For that reason, Tabaku has submitted another formal request to find out what security checks the state-owned company carried out before accepting Ron Yeffet’s unsolicited offer.

“A person linked to the government cannot be handed the keys to the arms industry and 34 million euros from the state budget without competition or transparency, and without producing anything, and then remain beyond scrutiny,” she wrote.

Tabaku also described the proposed amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure as concerning. She warned that restricting SPAK’s powers to conduct searches and investigations and bring such cases before the courts would not amount to reform, but to political protection for corruption.

According to the Democratic MP, this model of governance has damaged institutions and created inequality between citizens and those close to the prime minister.

“This is a government for the few, where not everyone is equal before the law. We demand transparency, accountability and justice to the very end,” Jorida Tabaku concluded.
