Former President of the Republic Bamir Topi spoke on the “First Minute” program on News24 about the meeting held several days ago with President Bajram Begaj. According to reports, the meeting was also attended by several important foreign ambassadors, as well as former President Rexhep Meidani.
Topi said he had been invited by the current head of state and that the discussion had focused on the critical situation in the country, caused by the protests held in recent days.

He clarified that, in accordance with institutional rules, responsibility for informing the public about the content of meetings lies with the Presidency, not with those who attend them.
“The institution’s rule is that the institution itself makes the content of meetings known. None of the participants does so. Therefore, while respecting this rule, we can speak about the content, but not about the participants. The meeting was related to the critical situation in the country and the protests,” Topi said.
During the interview, the former head of state said that he had never had a one-on-one meeting with Bajram Begaj since the latter took office. According to Topi, the current president had not deemed such a meeting with him necessary.
“I have never had a one-on-one meeting with President Begaj. Since he entered office, he has not deemed it appropriate to have a meeting, at least not with me. So that has been the situation,” the former head of state said.
Nevertheless, Bamir Topi decided to accept the invitation, assessing the importance of the circumstances and the responsibility associated with his previous experience leading the country.
“It was an invitation from President Begaj. Of course, I cannot turn my back on my political career and my experience as head of state in such cases. I believe one should always be present. In this context, I respected an invitation from the institution, and we were within these standard parameters,” Topi said.
