NASA predicts the impact will occur at around 07:35, making clear that the event poses no threat to Earth.
The object is the upper stage of a Falcon 9 rocket, which is comparable in size to a five-story building and weighs more than 4,000 kilograms. After completing its mission, the object remained in space and has been drifting uncontrolled for a long time.
Experts say the moment of impact will not be visible from Earth with the naked eye. However, people with powerful telescopes may be able to spot a brief flash on the lunar surface during the collision.
NASA spokesperson Jimi Russel said the agency would continue monitoring the impact area for scientific purposes, while emphasizing that “there is no risk to Earth.”
Through this event, NASA scientists aim to collect data from the Moon and improve the methods used to track objects in space.
“It is something truly large crashing into the Moon. It is not dangerous at all; we can watch the show,” said Dr. Matt Bothwell, a public astronomer at the University of Cambridge.
