The highest reading was measured in the village of Dolné Plastince, in the south of the country. It surpassed the previous record of 41.4 degrees Celsius, recorded just one day earlier in southwestern Slovakia, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) reported.

Bratislava has also experienced record temperatures for Slovakia this week. In the capital, 38-year-old Maros Danko said he was staying at home longer than usual because of the heat.

“I try not to go outside. I can’t exercise during the day. It’s somewhat restrictive,” he said.

During June, Slovakia’s temperature record has been broken twice.
