The City of Skopje will provide 1,200,000 denars in financial support to help deal with the consequences of the earthquake in Venezuela, Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski announced.
Gjorgjievski stressed that Skopje knows very well the pain left behind by a devastating earthquake, as such a wound remains deeply embedded in the city’s history.

According to him, it is precisely from this experience that the strongest message emerges: in the hardest moments, humanity must be heard more than ever. He recalled that after the catastrophic earthquake of 1963, Skopje was not left alone, as aid came from all over the world and people from different continents contributed to helping the city rise again from the ruins.
Among the first countries to stand by Skopje with help and solidarity, he added, was Venezuela as well, a support the city has not forgotten.
For this reason, now that the people of Venezuela are facing the consequences of the earthquake, the City of Skopje is responding with humanity, respect and support, Gjorgjievski said.
He also expressed condolences to the families of the victims, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
“Our thoughts are with all the citizens going through these difficult moments. Skopje was rebuilt through the solidarity of the world, among them Venezuela. That is why Skopje is a global city today,” Gjorgjievski wrote./Telegrafi/
