Salianji calls for Rama’s resignation and criticizes the opposition: Silence in the face of the youth protest offers no alternative

As the situation near the Prime Minister’s Office, on “Martyrs of the Nation” Boulevard, remains tense, Ervin Salianji has reacted on social media, calling for Prime Minister Edi Rama to step down. According to him, if Rama does not resign, citizens will remove him.

In his response, Salianji also criticized the opposition, saying that it is remaining withdrawn, silent and frightened, just like the government it claims to oppose. He places this conduct against the backdrop of what he describes as one of the most serious political crises Albania is facing.

According to Salianji, the headquarters of the Democratic Party should at this moment be serving as the center of resistance. He says the opposition should be holding press conferences every hour, making public denunciations and unwaveringly supporting the protesters and students who report mistreatment, instead of remaining silent. He also refers to reports circulating that senior opposition leaders have left the capital precisely during these critical moments.

Pointing out that protests are taking place in many countries across Europe, Salianji says the tragic feature of the Albanian case is that citizens appear to no longer trust either the government or the forces presenting themselves as its alternatives. In his view, this distrust encompasses the entire political system and is not limited to the government.

He argues that an opposition which fears citizens’ anger as much as those in power cannot give them hope. According to him, when it fails to respond to injustices and is absent when young people are protesting for their dignity and future, it does not represent an alternative but becomes part of the crisis and of the system that has abandoned Albanians.

In this context, Salianji calls on Sali Berisha to step aside today, giving the protest greater momentum. In his assessment, without Berisha, Rama will fall within a week.

According to Salianji, citizens’ inability to distinguish between those in power and the opposition reveals more than a crisis of representation: it demonstrates the bankruptcy of the entire political system. He describes this as the political and moral failure of a class that, in his assessment, no longer has the right to speak on behalf of Albanians.

Salianji stresses that the country needs a genuine alternative, not merely a change of power between those who have lost citizens’ trust. He calls for a politics that joins the protest instead of fearing it and, saying that the pupils and students have succeeded, calls for everything possible to be done to help them. According to him, a dignified Albania is built together with them.
