NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte voiced support for the latest US attacks against Iran, saying they were “absolutely necessary.”
During the two-day NATO summit in Ankara, attended by leaders of member states, including US President Donald Trump, Rutte answered questions about the US military operation, which Washington said struck more than 80 targets in Iran.

“I think it was absolutely necessary, because when you have a ceasefire and Iran effectively violates it, as we saw with the attacks on ships, it is important for the United States to respond forcefully,” the NATO chief said.
Rutte’s position comes at a time when tensions between the US and Iran have escalated significantly, following attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and the military response by the Americans.
This statement is expected to further fuel debate over the latest developments in the Middle East, while at the Ankara summit NATO leaders continue discussions on security in the region and global challenges.
