Ballistic missiles struck areas east of the Ukrainian capital, causing casualties and property damage. Timur, the head of the regional military administration, confirmed that three people were also wounded in the strikes.

This wave of attacks came just days after 21 people were killed in other Russian strikes. Meanwhile, Ukraine is facing a shortage of interceptor missiles used to defend its airspace.

On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky again called for more U.S. Patriot air defense systems. He said the supplies made available to Ukraine were insufficient to counter the increase in Russian attacks.

Zelensky’s request came several days after U.S. President Donald Trump appeared to back away from a pledge to enable Ukraine to obtain a license to produce defense systems. Despite this, Zelensky spoke again on Saturday about an agreement with the United States regarding the license.

Direct U.S. military aid to Ukraine has declined since Trump took office. As an alternative, European allies have purchased U.S. equipment and supplies, including Patriot missiles, to send to Ukraine.

“Ukraine does not have, and never will have, the funds that Russia has and is using to finance the war,” Zelensky said.
