Following Russian drone strikes against targets in western Ukraine, Poland temporarily suspended flights at two airports in the eastern part of the country. NATO fighter jets were activated to secure the airspace, while air defenses were placed on alert.
Foreign media reported that activity at the airports in Lublin and Rzeszów was suspended to enable military aviation operations. Meanwhile, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces announced that detection radars and ground-based air defense systems had been placed on alert.

According to the authorities, these measures were taken as a precaution to protect Poland’s airspace, with particular attention to areas near regions at risk of attack.
Later reports said that flights in Lublin and Rzeszów resumed after the temporary suspension. During the incident, Polish authorities did not report any violations of the country’s airspace.
The measures were taken as Russia has intensified its attacks against Ukraine and states on NATO’s eastern flank continue to keep their defense systems on alert.
