Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has raised the alarm about the risks facing the European Union, highlighting Russia’s efforts to undermine the values and identity of the continent.

In her speech, she underlined that the EU is at a moment “more powerful than ever before,” but is nevertheless going through a phase of deep uncertainty.
Von der Leyen noted that, although the war in Ukraine continues, a “stronger and more independent Europe” is emerging, as the bloc continues to stand by Kyiv in its war efforts.
As for foreign interference and disinformation campaigns, she said the names behind them may change, but the objective remains unchanged. “They despise our values; they aim to destroy our European identity,” she declared.
Furthermore, the European Commission President stressed that, faced with uncertainties on the global stage, Europe has the capacity to guarantee its citizens “genuine European sovereignty.”
