Artane Rizvanolli, Minister of Economy, and Dirk Schuebel, the European Union ambassador to Kosovo, visited the Kosovo Energy Corporation’s “Kosova B” power plant today. They were briefed on the progress of work on the electrofilters and the DeNOx system, which is intended to reduce nitrogen oxides.
The investment, worth approximately €84 million and funded by the EU, is being carried out by a European consortium at units B1 and B2. Work on B1 began in April 2026 and is expected to be completed in November this year. Work on B2 is expected to begin in April 2027.

The Ministry of Economy has called on the contractor and the EU, as the contracting authority, to make every effort to meet the planned deadline. According to the announcement, bringing unit B1 back into operation on time is particularly important for the security of energy supply during the winter, when consumption rises.
Rizvanolli stressed that implementation must be monitored continuously and that any obstacle threatening the deadlines must be addressed without delay.
The project aims to reduce the concentration of dust in flue gases to 20 mg/Nm³ and nitrogen oxides to 200 mg/Nm³. These targets represent a reduction of up to 18 times in dust, from 350mg to 20mg, and around three times in nitrogen oxides, from 540mg to 200mg, significantly improving the power plant’s environmental performance, the announcement said.
During meetings held this week, the minister and ambassador also discussed reforms under the EU Growth Plan. Topics included the draft Law on the Energy Regulatory Office, which is under public consultation until November 5, with interested parties invited to submit comments. Its adoption is linked to meeting a Growth Plan condition worth around €6.26 million.
The parties also praised their cooperation to date, including the €75 million Energy Support Package, which concluded on October 16. More than 200,000 households and 154 businesses in Kosovo benefited from the package.
Rizvanolli and Schuebel reaffirmed their readiness to continue close cooperation on investments and reforms that strengthen energy security, improve services for citizens and help modernize the sector.
