Between January and August, Pogradec’s attractions and tourist areas were visited by around 500,000 people. The Early Christian Basilica of Lin ranks among the most visited sites, with nearly 6,000 visitors, most of them foreigners.
The Drilon Springs, the Drilon–Tushemisht Water Park and the Monumental Tombs of Selca have also attracted considerable interest. Southeastern Albania and the country as a whole offer foreign tourists the opportunity to explore several destinations within a short period, with visits lasting from one week to two months, as was the case with one German visitor.
The German tourist said he had arrived in Albania via Montenegro and had been in the country for two months. He had also visited Korça, which he described as a very beautiful city, while he had spent two weeks in Pogradec. According to him, the people are calm and relaxed, Albania is truly beautiful, Albanian food is very good, and the country offers many attractive places to see.
The area has also sparked interest among British visitors, who particularly appreciate Lake Ohrid, the pleasant climate and the opportunities to discover destinations around it.
A tourist from England said he had been in the area for eight days. He described Lake Ohrid as wonderful, with a very pleasant temperature and fantastic conditions for swimming. During his visit, he had gone to the Monastery of Saint Naum and taken a boat trip across the lake. It was his first time in Lin, which he considered very beautiful, although he noted that the heat was intense, especially for an Englishman.
The increase in tourist numbers has also been felt in the accommodation sector. Data show that bookings continued throughout the season, while a significant proportion of accommodation facilities remain booked for September as well.
Last year, Pogradec recorded around 450,000 tourists over the course of 12 months. This year, the number of visitors is expected to exceed 550,000 by the end of the year.
