The Mayor of the Municipality of Mitrovica, Faton Peci, has expressed his condolences to the Xhemajli and Zejnullahu families, who are enduring profound grief following the deaths of their sons in a fatal accident in Smrekonica, Vushtrri.

In a public statement, Peci emphasized that the city of Mitrovica is shrouded in mourning today.
“I am deeply shocked and saddened by today’s tragic event, which claimed the lives of two young men from our municipality. My deepest condolences to the Xhemajli and Zejnullahu families for the loss of their loved ones, Qëndrimi and Rinori. This tragedy is not only a wound for the families and relatives, but for our entire city,” he wrote.
The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 3:00 a.m., when Qëndrimi and Rinori were traveling along the Mitrovica–Pristina road and were involved in a fatal collision.
The official statement from the Kosovo Police said that, according to the initial investigation, one vehicle with two occupants—the driver and a passenger—was involved in the incident. The victims were immediately transported to hospital for medical assistance, but despite the efforts of medical staff, doctors confirmed their deaths.
By order of the case prosecutor, the bodies of the two young men, aged 22 and 24, were sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy.
Investigative teams are currently continuing their work to determine the circumstances and causes that led to this tragic accident.
