Before the plenary session began, Deputy Assembly Speaker and PDK MP Vlora Çitaku said that voting on the legal amendments concerning the Specialist Chambers represents a national responsibility for the Assembly.
Çitaku said this was an obligation that went beyond political affiliations and was connected to the citizens, history, present and future of Kosovo.
“We have not only a political obligation, but a national and civic one, to pass this law together today. This law does not belong to a political party; it is a law for the history, present and future of Kosovo,” she said.
PDK MP Uran Ismaili also called on lawmakers to vote for the bill on the Specialist Chambers.
According to Ismaili, the citizens of Kosovo are following the session closely, and the Assembly has the opportunity to contribute to greater transparency and to the functioning of the justice system.
“I think all of Kosovo is waiting for something like this. All eyes in Kosovo are on this Assembly today, which has the opportunity to provide greater transparency and a justice system. This law is intended to bring justice to its conclusion in the country and is not a law that seeks to hide any kind of crime,” Ismaili said.
Bosniak community MP Duda Bajle also expressed her support for the legal amendments concerning the Specialist Court.
“Yes, absolutely. Since the first day of my career, I have supported everything related to the KLA, and I will continue to do so. They have my vote for every initiative, and naturally today as well,” she said.
The initiative to amend the law on the Specialist Chambers in The Hague comes after former KLA leaders were sentenced to a total of 81 years in prison.
