The 71st Eurovision will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria. North Macedonia’s delegation at the event will be led by Jana Burcheska and Aleksandra Jovanovska.
RTM Director Zoran Ristoski said that the current method for selecting the representative would change. According to him, citizens should receive complete and timely information about the rules of the process, the established criteria and the reasons why a singer and a song will be selected to represent North Macedonia.
RTM has not yet published details about the new procedure. For this reason, it is not known whether there will be a national selection, an open public competition or a mixed formula involving a professional jury and audience voting.
What has become clear is the public broadcaster’s aim to accompany the return with a high-quality song, a well-developed artistic concept and a better-organized promotional strategy.
Ristoski also announced that MRT is receiving support from the European Broadcasting Union in its efforts to convey music, culture and national values through its Eurovision performance.
At the same time, the public broadcaster is expected to create more suitable conditions for the country’s return to the competition, particularly given that financial costs were among the reasons that led to its several-year absence.
The artist who will represent North Macedonia and the song that will be performed in Burgas will be announced at a later date. According to MRT announcements, the process will be more open, and the public will be able to follow all stages of the selection more clearly.
The Eurovision organizers have also welcomed North Macedonia’s return through a video featuring several of the country’s former representatives.
North Macedonia’s last participation in the competition was in 2022. At the time, Andrea Koevska performed the song “Circles,” but failed to qualify for the final.
With its participation confirmed for 2027, North Macedonia’s longest absence from Eurovision comes to an end. The next step will be to determine the selection method and the name of the artist who will represent the country in Burgas.
