Japan’s Defense Ministry said the missile landed in the sea, outside Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the launch was carried out from the Wonsan area.
The incident occurred several days after Pyongyang described as “groundless” Seoul’s claims that mines planted by North Korea in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) had caused South Korean soldiers to suffer serious injuries.
North Korea has also rejected Seoul’s request for an apology over the incident.
