Nimani: Kosovo heading toward new elections, parties considering the most suitable date

LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku’s statement that six deputies from his party will not support Bekim Sejdiu for president has created uncertainty over securing the necessary votes and quorum.

Under these circumstances, one alternative could be to resume communication with the AAK. The party’s leader, Ardian Gjini, previously said that the AAK was ready to secure the quorum for the election of the president if its conditions were accepted.

Political analyst Artan Nimani described the differing positions of the six LDK deputies as a sign of pluralism and democracy within the party. However, he stressed that this confrontation was directly affecting efforts to overcome the institutional crisis.

Nimani also addressed the AAK’s position, stating that the party had presented Prime Minister Kurti with a concrete offer. According to him, the AAK’s proposals were not linked solely to the interests of this political force, but could serve any government and the interests of the state.

“There have historically been differing positions within this party. The fact that six deputies are still expressing views different from those of the party leader shows, from one perspective, pluralism, democracy and political character. But this situation is now directly affecting the resolution of the institutional crisis.

Meanwhile, the AAK has made Prime Minister Kurti a concrete offer. Its points are not only in the AAK’s interest; if considered seriously, they could serve any government and the interests of the state itself. So far, this offer has not been taken seriously into consideration, not even by the winning party,” Nimani said.

The analyst believes that Kosovo has already exceeded the deadlines set by the Constitution and that developments are pushing the country toward new elections.

According to him, political parties have begun calculating which date would suit them best, while September 16 could mark a significant turning point on the political scene.

“Every constitutional deadline has been exceeded and, in my assessment, the actions that may be taken going forward are largely unconstitutional. For this reason, it is difficult for them to produce any political or institutional result.

I believe Kosovo is heading toward new elections. The main issue is no longer whether there will be elections, but when they will be held. The parties are already calculating the deadlines and the moment that suits them best from a political standpoint.

In this context, September 16 could be a particularly significant date, one that could change the rules of the game not only in politics, but also in many other areas of developments in Kosovo,” he concluded to “Bota sot”.
