The boat-shaped rock formation located in the mountains of eastern Turkey has long been regarded as a natural creation made up entirely of rocks.

However, the international team investigating the Durupınar site near Mount Ararat believes the structure may conceal more than a geological mass and that traces of Noah’s Ark could be found there.
According to the biblical account, the vessel protected Noah, his family and the animals from a devastating flood, which, according to some biblical chronologies, occurred more than 4,300 years ago. New data from radar scanning has revealed significant underground anomalies and distinct layers within the formation, which is approximately 157 meters long. These findings cast doubt on the conclusion that it is a single, indivisible rocky mass.
The study, led by Dr. Khosroë Bakhtar, relied on BakhtarRadar, a specialized imaging technology developed as part of research by the U.S. Air Force. The equipment was used to examine the depths of the area more extensively than had been possible with previous scans.
The researchers’ next step is to conduct a detailed review of the data and carry out drilling to obtain samples. The aim is to determine whether the anomalies are the result of natural processes or are linked to structures built by humans. The final conclusion will depend on future analyses and the physical evidence that may be extracted from underground.
