On the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, US President Donald Trump said he is strongly inclined to remove Syria from the State Department’s list of countries that support terrorism.
FT reports that, during a bilateral meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, Trump praised the country’s progress, describing it as very stable.

When asked by reporters whether he would take this step, President Trump replied, “I think I will. Why shouldn’t I?”
Meanwhile, Syria currently remains one of only four countries on the US blacklist for sponsoring terrorism, alongside Cuba, Iran and North Korea.
