US President Donald Trump said that he is making his trip from Washington to Ankara for the NATO Summit for a special reason: a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“I want to go because of Erdogan,” Trump told reporters before his departure, describing the Turkish president as “a friend” and “a respected leader.”
