Mystery surrounds 62-year-old’s death in Bulqizë as investigation contradicts accounts of victim’s wife and son!

The discovery of several more cartridge cases 500–600 metres from Urim Fiku’s home in the village of Godvi, Bulqizë, has taken the investigation into the 62-year-old’s death on November 3 in a new direction. The circumstances of the incident remain unclear.

The victim’s wife and son appeared before the Dibër court a day earlier and denied committing the crime, stating that Urim had been attacked by a wild animal and, in a state of severe shock, had shot himself with a pistol in the courtyard of his home.

But this account failed to convince the court, which ordered Sadete and Gazmir Fiku to remain in custody as the only suspects so far in the serious crime.

Investigators are understood to have returned to the scene and searched the area.

Several more cartridge cases were found 500–600 metres from the house. They are suspected to have been fired from the same firearm found in the courtyard on the day of the incident.

This has taken the investigation in a different direction, with suspicions that the 62-year-old may have been pursued from a distance and shot at several times before being struck by the fatal bullet in the courtyard of his home.

The newly discovered cartridge cases have been sent to forensic police in Tirana, who will determine whether they were fired from the same TT pistol.

The accounts given by the mother and son have varied so far. They initially stated that Urim had fought with a wild animal, a bear, and died as a result. They later said he had arrived near the house injured by the wild animal and, in a state of shock, had taken the pistol and shot himself.

Urim’s son, Gazmir Fiku, is also understood to have stated that at the time of the incident he was in Bulqizë, at his office, where he works as the head of a department at OSHEE.
