Morina sees record influx, over 203,000 entries from Kosovo in seven days

The Morina Border Crossing Point has recorded an extraordinary movement at the end of August, with more than 200 thousand citizens of Kosovo entering Albania during one week.

Data from the Directorate for Border and Immigration show that, from August 24 to 30, 203,972 citizens of Kosovo entered Albanian territory through Morina, accompanied by 61,562 vehicles and buses.

The largest increase in flow was recorded in the final hours of this period. From 05:00 on August 29 to 08:00 on August 30, 51,278 citizens of Kosovo entered Albania, together with 14,692 vehicles and buses.

Meanwhile, just during the August 24–28 interval, 152,694 citizens of Kosovo and 46,870 vehicles entered through Morina.

This intensification of border movements is linked to the final days of the summer holiday season.

A large portion of Kosovo citizens have chosen Albania to spend the last days of summer, before returning to Kosovo and the start of the new school year on September 1.

Morina has had high traffic throughout the season. In May, June, and July alone, around 1.43 million citizens of Kosovo entered Albania through this border point.

Among them are also members of the Kosovo diaspora, who, after staying in their homeland, have chosen the Albanian coastline for summer vacations.

As September 1 approaches, the movement trend is expected to reverse.

After the high number of entries into Albania at the end of August, exits toward Kosovo are expected to increase at Morina, as vacationers begin their return and families prepare for the new school year.
