Morina at the peak of summer traffic, with over 200,000 Kosovars entering Albania in one week

The flow of travelers and vehicles at the Morina Border Crossing Point has reached extraordinary levels, while the end of August has marked the gradual return of holidaymakers from Kosovo ahead of the start of the new school year.

According to data from the Directorate for Border and Emigration, between 5:00 a.m. on August 29 and 8:00 a.m. on August 30, 51,278 citizens of Kosovo entered Albania through Morina, accompanied by 14,692 vehicles and buses.

Traffic was also considerable during the period from August 24 to 28, when 152,694 citizens of Kosovo and 46,870 vehicles crossed into Albanian territory through this border point.

As a result, during the August 24–30 period, the number of citizens of Kosovo who entered Albania through Morina reached 203,972, while the number of vehicles reached 61,562.

This movement is linked to the final days of the tourist season, as citizens of Kosovo take the opportunity to spend a few more days on the Albanian coast before returning to Kosovo and the start of the new school year on September 1.

Morina recorded a high number of crossings throughout the summer season. In May, June and July alone, around 1.43 million citizens of Kosovo entered Albania, many of whom continued on to coastal areas.

This total also includes members of Kosovo’s diaspora, who, during stays in their homeland, chose Albania as their destination for summer holidays.

As September 1 approaches, the Morina crossing is expected to continue facing heavy traffic, but now mainly in the direction of Kosovo, due to the return of holidaymakers and preparations for the start of the new school year.
