The incident occurred on October 3, 2026, after officials from the Anti-Smuggling Sector stopped a Shkoda Superb vehicle with North Macedonian plates for inspection. The vehicle was being driven by a citizen of that country.
When asked by the officials whether he had any items or funds to declare, the driver said he had nothing.
However, a detailed inspection in the second-line inspection area led to the discovery of 11,980 euros and 84,500 North Macedonian denars, which had been hidden in the vehicle. Customs said the money had not been declared in accordance with the requirements of the legislation in force.
After the denars were converted into euros, the total amount of undeclared funds reached 13,353.98 euros. The customs authorities confiscated the funds.
Kosovo Customs reminded travelers that, pursuant to Article 33, paragraph 1, of Law No. 05/L-096 on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism, any person entering or leaving Kosovo while carrying 10,000 euros or more, or the equivalent amount in other currencies, must declare it to Kosovo Customs.
