During the ceremonial academy for October 23, the Day of the Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expressed concern that unrest in Europe and the Balkans could have consequences for Macedonia as well. He also accused part of the opposition of potentially engaging in political provocations, driven by personal interests.
According to Mickoski, the comparison to a powder keg no longer applies only to the Balkans, as Europe is also taking on the appearance of a troubled volcano. He said that reason is being given less and less room, while protests and various forms of violence are seen every day both in Europe and in neighboring countries.

The Prime Minister stated that the activity of services in the Balkans never stops. In this context, he said he would not be surprised by any attempt to bring the region’s problems into Macedonia.
Mickoski warned that there may be parties seeking to drag the country into their problems or to bring into citizens’ daily lives a part of the atmosphere that prevails among them.
Referring to domestic political actors, he claimed that their involvement in such actions could easily be fueled by personal interests. According to him, some opposition representatives are capable of performing “miracles” in exchange for money and false promises of a position.
In conclusion, Mickoski called for greater awareness among citizens and urged them not to fall prey to provocations or artificially raised issues. He also warned against what he described as excessively exaggerated ethnic topics.
