North Macedonia’s Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski, stated that the country continues to offer fuel at the lowest cost in the entire region, despite the upward trend recorded in the last two weeks. According to him, the executive is closely monitoring global stock market trends and expects a significant contraction in the value of diesel and gasoline starting next week.

During a statement to the media, Mickoski explained that the excise tax calculation is carried out in two-week intervals and that on Monday the average for the second half of the month will be determined. He emphasized that the international price of oil has declined for two consecutive days and is currently hovering around 85-86 dollars per barrel, which creates premises for a downward correction in fuel prices.
The head of government underlined that institutions are carrying out permanent oversight of fluctuations in international markets and left open the possibility of additional interventions, depending on the conclusions of analyses that will be finalized at the close of July.
He recalled that this is a commodity that fluctuates according to the stock exchange and the entire region is supplied from the same source, yet North Macedonia maintains the leading position for the most favorable prices of diesel and unleaded gasoline, ranking among countries with the lowest cost even on a European scale. Mickoski reiterated that action has already been taken once through excise tax adjustment and that after the legal deadline is met and the relevant analyses are completed, a decision will be made on whether further steps are needed.
