He emphasized that, as a multiethnic country, North Macedonia must ensure that all communities participate equally in its development and future.
According to Mexhiti, respect for every community, strengthening the country’s multiethnic character and the equal treatment of citizens constitute the political and institutional orientation being pursued every day.
He said that this orientation is being put into practice through concrete decisions, policies and investments, particularly through the way the budget is allocated and municipalities’ access to state resources.
“For the first time, under our government, a fairer distribution of the budget share has been made, enabling municipalities and citizens to have more equal access to the state’s resources,” Mexhiti said.
The VLEN co-chair also listed investments in infrastructure, roads, hospitals, schools and public infrastructure among the priorities. He added that greater attention is also being paid to education and culture.
Mexhiti stressed that equality is determined not only by political representation or holding positions, but also by the way resources and development opportunities are distributed.
“Equality is not measured solely by representation and positions. It is also measured by where the state invests, how much it invests, and how fairly it distributes resources and development opportunities,” he said.
In conclusion, Mexhiti said that institutions have a responsibility to build a state that respects its multiethnic composition and bases its development on the principle of equality.
“Happy September 8, North Macedonia’s Independence Day!” Mexhiti concluded.
