Meta Opposes Territorial Reform: Fushë-Arrëz Should Be Supported, Not Dissolved

Ilir Meta has spoken out against the Territorial Reform and any intervention affecting the Municipality of Fushë-Arrëz, claiming that the plan to dissolve it is linked to the fact that it is governed by the opposition.

In a Facebook post, Meta said that Fushë-Arrëz does not deserve to be dissolved. According to him, the local government unit ranks among the top nine municipalities for performance and contributes more than €200 million to GDP annually.

“It is time to say NO to the ‘Mountain Package’ in the Municipality of Fushë-Arrëz! This municipality has diverse resources for development, ranks among the top nine highest-performing municipalities and contributes more than €200 million to GDP each year,” Meta said.

He highlighted the area’s extraordinary natural beauty and forests, which he said offer numerous opportunities for mountain tourism. Meta claimed that the attack on Fushë-Arrëz is aimed at depopulating the region to create an area that will later be seized by the predators of the “Mountain Package.”

According to Meta, the initiative also constitutes an attack on the extraordinary success achieved in the administration of the municipality under the opposition’s leadership, particularly by Mayor Hil Curri and the administration’s dedicated employees.

He suggested that Mr. Mazniku, who he said has never visited Fushë-Arrëz, not even to meet Socialist Party councillors, let alone local residents, should send employees from the municipal administrations taken over by “Rilindja” there for training. According to Meta, they should learn from the excellent administration of Fushë-Arrëz, which, in terms of service, dedication, conduct, transparency and accountability, can only be compared with municipalities in Scandinavian countries.

Meta said that the repopulation of the region has begun thanks to the management skills of Mayor Curri and the administration, policies and projects that encourage investment, as well as support from the diaspora. It is precisely for this reason, he said, that Edi Rama wants to target Fushë-Arrëz, because his agenda is depopulation and denationalisation.

In conclusion, Meta stressed that, also as a sign of respect for the suffering of the many intellectuals who were convicted and politically interned, the Municipality of Fushë-Arrëz deserves only support and must never be dissolved.
