Fushë-Arrëz Rejects Merger with Puka, Mayor Curri: We Will Turn to a Referendum and Protests

Fushë-Arrëz residents will decide for themselves through a popular referendum whether they oppose the merger of their municipality.

Mayor Hil Curri announced this position, stressing that no discussions have yet been held with residents about the proposal, a move that he said would accelerate the abandonment of this northern town.

Curri argued that the Municipality of Fushë-Arrëz is not a financial burden on the government, as several heavy industry companies operate within its territory and their tax revenues are paid directly into the budget of the municipality he leads.

The Democratic Party mayor warned that the battle over this issue would go as far as the international courts. Meanwhile, local residents, together with the diaspora, are preparing to take to the streets in protest.
