Lord Nat Rothschild, the person who introduced Edi Rama to Jared Kushner on his yacht, has expressed disagreement with the way the Albanian government has handled Butrint National Park, as well as with its strategic investment legislation.

According to Rothschild, the 800-acre (about 324-hectare) reduction in the territory of Butrint National Park, together with the 2024 strategic investment legislation, conflicts with Albania’s international obligations.
He argues that these actions are at odds with UNESCO’s World Heritage Convention, Albania’s commitments regarding membership in the European Union, and the spirit of the environmental protections established over the past three decades.
“Edi Rama is a unique politician, someone I admire, and he has done so many good things for Albania. But the 800-acre reduction of Butrint National Park in 2022 and the 2024 strategic investment legislation, as applied to national parks and protected areas, are at odds with Albania’s obligations under UNESCO’s World Heritage Convention, its commitments regarding membership in the European Union, and the spirit of the environmental protections that have been so carefully built over the past three decades,” Lord Rothschild said.
