The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) is holding its Extraordinary Assembly today, at which delegates are expected to decide on the party’s future direction. The assembly was convened after all procedures stipulated in the statute had been completed.

Political analyst Nijazi Halili has analyzed the situation within the LDK for “Bota sot” ahead of the Extraordinary Assembly.
According to Halili, the discussions so far show that differing viewpoints have emerged within the party, which he considers part of a normal democratic development.
He considers this one of the most important political moments for the LDK, as the assembly will decide not only on the party leader’s name, but also on the direction the party will pursue in the coming years. Halili emphasizes that differences over the way the party is organized and its political positioning should not necessarily be viewed as a weakness, as long as the debate is based on political principles and does not turn into personal conflict.
The analyst sees the Extraordinary Assembly as the decisive point in this process. If Lumir Abdixhiku receives a new mandate, the result would mean the continuation of the current course and confirmation of support for the direction pursued so far. Otherwise, the LDK would face a new political phase, which would bring a race for new leadership and a review of the party’s priorities, Halili said.
Referring to figures who may seek to lead the LDK if changes take place at the top of the party, Halili said it was still too early to identify a favorite candidate. He stressed that the key element would be the candidate’s ability to bring the party’s internal structures closer together and unite them.
Halili explained that the LDK has several figures with political and institutional experience who could seek the leadership, but at this stage any prediction would be speculation. According to him, more important than a candidate’s individual standing will be the ability to build consensus, preserve the party’s cohesion and turn the LDK into a competitive alternative on Kosovo’s political scene.
He concluded that, regardless of the outcome of the assembly, the LDK’s main task would remain preserving unity and completing the process with full political legitimacy. For a party with a long institutional tradition, the way this transition is managed will be just as important as the name of the next party leader, Halili told “Bota sot”.
