Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo Albin Kurti met with Antero Lopes, the new head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo, EULEX. Kurti congratulated Lopes on his new position and wished him success in fulfilling his mandate.

During the conversation, Kurti praised EULEX’s continued contribution in Kosovo, particularly its monitoring of the justice system, strengthening of the rule of law and cooperation with the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
Part of the discussions focused on continuing to oversee the performance of justice institutions, as well as the institutional handling of cases of domestic violence and gender-based violence.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for EULEX’s engagement and monitoring in this regard. He stressed the need for a swift and coordinated response among the Police, the Prosecution, the courts and other responsible institutions, with the protection of victims as the top priority.
The security situation and cooperation among Kosovo’s institutions, EULEX and international partners were also discussed at the meeting.
Kurti highlighted the importance of uninterrupted coordination, information sharing and increased attention to security threats, including the security of critical infrastructure.
He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening rule-of-law institutions and its readiness to continue close and constructive cooperation with EULEX during Lopes’s mandate.
