According to the prime minister, the meeting with Lord Wood of Anfield followed two exchanges over the past two months with the Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Dame Karen Pierce. One took place in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, while the other was a telephone conversation with Pierce from Pristina. During that conversation, she also conveyed British Prime Minister Burnham’s congratulations to Kurti on the election of the president.
The prime minister described the United Kingdom as an important friend and ally of Kosovo, which has supported the country since its liberation and independence, through its democratic consolidation and on its path toward Euro-Atlantic integration.
Kurti said Kosovo, now with fully functioning institutions, was focusing on reforms and development. He stressed that there was considerable scope for cooperation with Britain, ranging from defence to the organisation of the Pristina 2030 Mediterranean Games.
