Acting Minister of Local Government Administration Elbert Krasniqi today formally addressed the mayors of North Mitrovica, Zvečan and Zubin Potok, calling on them to take the necessary steps to ensure community representation in municipal institutions.

His request contains two specific points: the appointment of deputy mayors for communities and the appointment of deputy chairs of municipal assemblies for communities.
According to Krasniqi, these actions do not depend on the will of the institutions, as they concern obligations arising from the legislation in force of the Republic of Kosovo.
He cited the municipalities of Gjakova, Lipjan, Ferizaj and others as examples. Although they were not directly required by law to provide this type of representation, they carried it out thanks to political and institutional will. Krasniqi said these cases demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and community representation.
By contrast, he described the failure of municipalities that are legally required to fulfill these obligations to implement them as unacceptable.
Krasniqi said that the Ministry of Local Government Administration would continue to call on all municipalities to respect and fully implement legislation on local self-government, with the aim of guaranteeing representation, inclusion and equal treatment for all citizens and communities.
