“This is the most important message, including for the United States: end this war,” Klingbeil said, also linking Trump to rising fuel prices.
According to him, “Donald Trump is responsible for the irresponsible war that began in Iran. We are seeing its consequences at gas stations.”
Finance ministers from G20 member countries will meet on Monday and Tuesday in Asheville, North Carolina, as part of preparations for the summit to be held in Miami in December.
In his remarks, Lars Klingbeil also reaffirmed the proposal to impose a European tax on the excess profits of oil companies. He stressed that these companies are benefiting financially from the geopolitical situation. “They are lining their pockets! This must stop,” he said.
The issue is expected to be discussed at the meeting of EU finance ministers scheduled to take place on September 19 in Dublin.
