Këlliçi erupts against Rama after Serbian minister’s statements: Scandal, call for ouster from the square

Democratic Party MP Belind Këlliçi reacted sharply to statements by Serbian minister Snežana Paunović about Kosovo, targeting Prime Minister Edi Rama for his stance toward Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

In a social media post, Këlliçi described the situation as “scandalous,” noting that on the same day a minister of the Belgrade government made grave assertions about the war in Kosovo, Rama appeared on Euronews Serbia and praised Vučić as well as the “Open Balkan” initiative.

According to Këlliçi, the Serbian official stated that if she had been in Milošević’s place, she would have carried out the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo to the end. But instead of condemning this stance, the Albanian prime minister chose to speak sympathetically about the Serbian president and defend the idea of regional cooperation.

“Edi Rama did not condemn the high-ranking official’s statement, nor did he express any indignation, but said that the idea of the Open Balkan was fantastic,” the Democratic MP wrote. He added that Rama linked support for this initiative with his own figure and that of Vučić, openly associating himself with the Serbian autocrat.

Këlliçi called this stance unacceptable and scandalous, considering it a pattern repeated over Rama’s 13 years in power. “In the square we must overthrow the ruler of Tirana and the twin of the Belgrade autocrat. It is a national imperative,” his reaction concluded, elevating the issue to the level of a civic mission.
