Interior Ministry: Crime in North Macedonia down 30%, lowest level recorded in the past two decades

North Macedonia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that, according to the data it has, the level of crime in the country has reached its lowest point in the past 20 years, while overall crime has fallen by 30 percent over the last two years.

According to the statement, efficiency in solving criminal offenses and identifying their perpetrators has also improved, reaching 69 percent. The ministry stressed that during this period more than 30 organized criminal groups were dismantled, while the number of detected groups linked to corruption increased by 50 percent.

In the fight against drug trafficking, according to the ministry, more than 1,600 criminal offenses were uncovered, around 1,900 people were reported, 6.2 tonnes of narcotics were seized, and nine international transports of marijuana and cocaine were prevented. Cocaine seizures also increased by more than 300 percent.

The ministry also emphasized that property crime fell by more than 30 percent, while robberies and violent thefts dropped by more than 40 percent.

“These are not just statistical indicators. Behind every figure stands a prevented criminal offense, a dismantled criminal network, a life saved, protected property, and greater security for citizens,” the statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
